Bilateral Blood Pressure Metrics – Blood Pressure Specific © ™
A technique for evaluating stroke risk prior to and following chiropractic cervical adjustment or manipulation.
In the Chiropractic profession and throughout society stroke following cervical spinal manipulation is the principal danger facing patients and the profession alike. With only 7-10 percent of the population utilizing chiropractic services at any given time; we as a profession must do better.
However minimal the risk; fear of stroke perpetuated by societal beliefs and norms causes a gatekeeper effect; naturally limiting the utilization of chiropractic by the majority. Resulting in epidemic levels of disability and addiction that could have otherwise been addressed through conservative chiropractic treatment.
When beginning chiropractic treatment for the first time or when starting with a new doctor, patients are actively assessing the doctor’s competency to adjust safely and skillfully. Doctors of chiropractic must also remain vigilant in the care of their patients. Ensuring that when factors exist which represent a risk for stroke or other disease that all care is taken before, during and after the adjustment to ensure the patient arrives home in a well state.
Bilateral Blood Pressure Metrics aka Blood Pressure Specific ©, is a cervical spine specific technique that assesses correctness of the cervical vertebral alignment via bilateral blood pressure equivalences. Both systolic and diastolic blood pressure differences greater than 10mm Hg are significant and relate to different spinal segments having a specific subluxation or malposition associated with each. Blood pressure specific or BPS offers a direct and immediate method of assessing treatment quality and correctness of alignment for better patient outcomes.
Systolic blood pressure differences greater than 20mm Hg that persist after cervical spine adjustment are significant and are indicative of dissecting aortic aneurysm requiring the doctor to call emergency services for immediate patient transport to the ER.
Blood Pressure Specific or BPS ©, when applied correctly can be effective in assessing stroke risk prior to and folowing chiropractic cervical adjustment. BPS may be effective in determining if certain types of adjustments can be provided safely or if the doctor should consider a different technique that better suits the patient’s needs.
Blood Pressure Specific or BPS ©, focuses on vertebral artery neurology and cerebral perfusion when considering subluxations in patients with dysfunctional blood pressure patterns. Specific correction of subluxations associated with dysfunctional blood pressure patterns allow for equilibrium of cerebral blood pressure, optimum neural tone, expression of wellness and quality of life.
Doctors’ of chiropractic and all health care professionals should consider the relationship of bilateral blood pressure metrics to health conditions when screening and treating patients.
Managing a patient’s blood pressure is one of the most primary health concerns in the world today. Any method that can be applied in the management of high blood pressure or blood pressure inequalities would be effective in improving the lives of patients’ around the world.
